World’s Most Bizarre Space Rocket

January 17, 2010

No, it’s not one of James Bond movie settings. This is a real rocket, called Roton ATV. It was meant to fly to the Earth orbit in 2001. But it never happened. The company behind this space ship went bankrupt before the project was finished. Pictures below show the last test of the rocket. It flew as fast as 53 miles per hour and reached 75 feet.

If the project was ever finished, the space ship would fly in the atmosphere using the propeller with jet pipes on its blades. Such engine was first constructed in the 60’s but no aircraft had ever used it before Roton ATV.
